Angela Semple

Angela Semple is a proud member of the Ktunaxa nation and a PhD Candidate in Indigenous Studies at Trent University. They identify as two spirit, a writer, an auntie and a cat person. Angela’s poetry has been published in The Capilano Review, Electric City Magazine, and their piece “He talked of Tom Thomson” was published on coffee sleeves in Nogojiwanong (Peterborough), Ontario, as the winner of the eCity Lit competition for artsweek 2015. They are also an avid Facebook poet, publishing a near-daily haiku practice using the hashtag #haikuaday. In January 2017, Angela began co-hosting a Trent Radio show dedicated to local music and poetry called #HAIKUSDAY, where Angela and their co-host, Sarah McNeilly, speak only in 5/7/5 haiku collaboration (currently on seasonal hiatus). They now go by the name Smokii Sumac as of 2017.
