  Les littératures minoritaires, dont la littérature franco-ontarienne, sont souvent considérées comme des littératures engagées. Cela a longtemps été le cas du théâtre en Ontario français. Or, la jeune génération de dramaturges s’est distanciée du discours politique et communautaire. Tel est le cas de Patrick Leroux dont l’œuvre s’inscrit dans le courant postmoderne, qui est généralement défini en fonction de caractéristiques formelles qui ont peu à voir avec la critique sociale. Dans cet article, l’auteur examine les procédés d’écriture postmodernes dans les pièces de Patrick Leroux afin de voir s’ils donnent lieu, malgré tout, à une critique de la société contemporaine.

  Le cheminement poétique d’Andrée Christensen, médiatrice avouée entre les mondes, se place dans l’appropriation du mythe d’Orphée contre lequel se dresse une Eurydice plurielle, oscillant entre la vie et la mort, entre la nouvelle identité et l’anéantissement symbolique. La vision différente, renouvelée d’Eurydice chez Christensen est vécue de l’intérieur. Dans son cheminement vers les origines, la poète creuse le sens des mystères, chante la transmutation alchimique et découvre ainsi une Isis initiatrice et guérisseuse qui rassemble les morceaux d’un monde démembré, en amont de l’Eurydice « sacrifiée » chez les Grecs.
  
  In her poetry, Andrée Christensen acts deliberately as a mediator between worlds. In her appropriation of the Orphic myth, we find a manifestation of a plural Eurydice who struggles between life and death, between a new identity and a symbolic destruction. Christensen experiences from within a new vision of a different Eurydice. In her quest of origins, the poet explores hidden mysteries while praising alchemical transmutations in which she discovers a new Isis, an initiation and a healer capable of assembling the dismembered world, behind a Eurydice “sacrificed” by the Greek.

  “Mouvances, mémoire et différence dans la littérature francophone du Far-Ouest canadien » traite de la déterritorialisation et de la fragilité linguistiques chez deux écrivains d’origine franco-albertaine, Marguerite-A. Primeau et Paulette Dubé. Toutes les deux sont bilingues, mais si Primeau écrit dans un français classique depuis la parution de son premier roman en 1960, Dubé, dont le premier roman a paru en 2002, écrit dans un anglais marqué par la langue maternelle. Postulant que l’écriture participe du processus linguistico-identitaire collectif toujours en évolution, cette étude comparée cherche à établir des liens entre la mémoire et les rapports changeants entre la langue maternelle, minoritaire, et la langue de l’altérité majoritaire.
  
  « Mouvances, mémoire et différence dans la littérature francophone du Far-Ouest canadien » is a study of dislocation and fragility in the language of two Francophone writers native to Alberta, Marguerite-A. Primeau and Paulette Dubé. Both these women are bilingual, but Primeau, whose first novel was published in 1960l has always written in a classic French, whereas Dubé, whose first novel appeared in 2002, writes in an English palpably inflected by her mother tongue. Grounded in the premise that writing partakes of an ever-evolving process of constructing linguistic identity, this comparative study seeks to gather insights on the connections between memory and the changing relationship between a minority first language and the language of the majority Other.

  À Moncton, à Ottawa, à Sudbury, à Toronto, à Saint-Boniface, et à Vancouver, nombreux dramaturges ont réussi à transcender la dramaturgie identitaire et régionaliste qui a aidé les communautés minoritaires à préserver leur mémoire collective et leur culture traditionnelle. Sans oublier le rôle du théâtre dans la vie culturelle de leurs communautés, ces auteurs ont osé renouveler l’écriture et la production théâtrales pour leur public de plus en plus urbain et éduqué. Dans l’ère de la mondialisation où les nouveaux médias effacent les frontières et donnent accès aux autres cultures et formes artistiques, ces auteurs élargissent leur champ de vision. Les résultats sont prometteurs: de nouvelles compagnies, de nouveaux auteurs et directeurs artistiques qui donnent libre cours à leur créativité pour offrir des œuvres plus universelles et innovatrices aux spectateurs qui veulent plus qu’affimer leur identité quand ils vont au théâtre.
  
  In Moncton, Ottawa, Sudbury, Toronto, Saint Boniface, and Vancouver, playwrights have gone beyond the regionalist, identitary drama that enabled minority Francophone communities to preserve their collective memories and traditional cultures. Without forgetting the important role of theatre in the cultural life of their respective communities, these writers have dared to revitalize theatrical literature and production for their increasingly urban and educated audiences. In the age of globalization, where new media erase borders and facilitate easy access to other cultures and artistic forms, these playwrights are expanding the possibilities of theatre. The results are promising : new theatre companies, new playwrights and artistic directors who give free reign to their creative impulses with the goal of offering more innovative, universal works to audiences who go to the theatre for more than an affirmation of their collective identities.

  Comment la littérature franco-ontarienne témoigne-t-elle de la rencontre avec cet Autre qu'est l'Amérindien ou le Métis ? Cet article de préciser ce que représente cet Autre, Amérindien ou Métis, de l'Amérindien mythique et idéalisé dans Nanna Bijou à la déconstruction du mythe dans L'Obomsawin en passant par l'altérité constructive, la bonne entente avec le Métis, dans La Quête d'Alexandre, et l'altérité douloureuse, soit le conflit entre l'Amérindien et le Blanc dans Le Trappeur du Kabi. Dans la littérature franco-ontarienne, l'image de l'Amérindien est souvent celle du Métis (figure ambivalente de l'Autre ?) et surtout, elle se détache du mythe tenace du «bon sauvage» ou de l'Indien barbare.

  
  
  How does Franco-Ontarian literature depict the meeting with the other when that other is aboriginal or Métis? This article attempts to articulate that which is represented by aboriginal or Metis in Franco-Ontarian writing, from the mythic and idealized aboriginal presented in Nanna Bijou to the deconstruction of the myth of L'Obomsawin. This examination passes through constructive otherness from the treaty with the Metis in La Quête d'Alexandre to the conflict between the aboriginals and the whites in Le Trappeur du Kabi. In Franco-Ontarian literature, the image of the aboriginal is often that of the Metis – a somewhat ambigous other. Further, the presentation of the aboriginal in this literature moves away from the persistent myth of the “noble savage” or the barbaric Indian.

• Gabrielle Roy and Translator Harry Lorin Binsse: How Their Disputes Shaped The Texts (p. 87 - 102)

  For most readers, a translator’s voice is indistinguishable from the author’s own. A like equation of translator Harry Lorin Binsse with Gabrielle Roy might have occurred, had not long-overlooked archival documents exposed their disputes over the final form of the texts. Roy’s revisions reveal not only her disagreement with certain of Binsse’s choices, but, more surprisingly, a retrospective displeasure in places with her own original French wording. In the end, the reconstruction of their partnership is a cautionary tale, a reminder that translation is always a betrayal, not just of the source text, but also of an imaginative vision that proves too elusive for print.
  
  Pour la plupart des lecteurs, la voix du traducteur est inséparable de la voix propre de l’auteur. Cela aurait pu être le cas pour le traducteur Harry Lorin Binsse avec Gabrielle Roy, si des documents d’archives, longtemps oubliés, n’avaient pas exposé leur désaccord sur la forme finale des textes. Les révisions de Roy ne démontrent pas seulement sa déception devant certains choix de Binsse, mais, ce qui est plus surprenant, un mécontentement de ses propres phrases originales en français. Finalement, une reconstruction de leur partenariat sert d’avertissement, de rappel que la traduction est toujours une trahison, non seulement du texte original, mais aussi de la vision imaginaire qui est trop volatile pour l’écriture.
