Call for Applications — Book Reviews Editor

Deadline: April 15, 2026 (Pacific Time)

The Canadian Literature Editorial Board seeks to appoint a new book reviews editor.

The current book reviews editor, Nick Bradley (University of Victoria) is stepping down after working with the journal for nearly eleven years. Thank you, Nick, for your work and for your longstanding support of the journal!

The book reviews editor will take responsibility for Canadian Literature’s book reviews in both its quarterly issues and on our website and, ideally, will be appointed for a three-year term (July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2029).

The book reviews editor is responsible for identifying new scholarly books on Canadian literature that warrant review and, for suggesting potential reviewers for reviews and review essays. Our reviews assistant contacts suggested reviewers and arranges for presses to mail review copies directly to those who agree to review books. The book reviews editor is also responsible for proofreading the book reviews section, quarterly. The book reviews editor has support from the journal’s Editor-in-Chief Mary Chapman, Managing Editor Brianne Colon, and the in-house copy-editor, journal assistant, and reviews assistant.

We strongly encourage applications from scholars who will further Canadian Literature’s mandate. Junior and untenured scholars, as well as those working at institutions without graduate students, are welcome to apply. Like the other associate editor roles, the position does not come with remuneration.

Applications should include a brief letter of interest and a CV, emailed to cl.manager@ubc.ca by April 15th.

If you have questions about the role, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the current book reviews editor, Nick Bradley nbradley@uvic.ca, or to Mary Chapman canlit.editor@ubc.ca

Thank you!
