The moon shows
a bit of leg
through curtains
of cloud,
ankle, knee,
thigh
nylons sighing
like cicadas
shameless
Questions and Answers
What inspired “Summer night”?
“Summer Night” is a whimsical poem that is nothing more than what it appears to be: a humorous reflection (no pun intended) on the moon. But as with all poetry, it attempts to show familiar things in a different light (again, no pun intended.)
What poetic techniques did you use in “Summer night”?
This is a very minimalist poem, in the style of one of my poetic heroes, William Carlos Williams, specifically his famous “white chickens” and cold plums’ poems. It makes use of a number of metaphors, treating the moon as a sexy woman doing a sort of celestial strip tease.
